Working from home seems fun until you realize just how many different distractions there are. From your pets to your kids to your spouse, to prepping a meal, and washing dishes, the distractions keep on piling up. If you need to work from home you have to create an office. Creating a home office is easy and will help you to be more productive.
Having an Office at Home
In order to work from home properly you need a designated area. The area should have a sitting or standing desk that offers ample room for your computer, notes and other work essentials. A standing desk is a great option if you want to burn more calories while you work and strengthen your back. The desk should be placed away from distractions, especially messy or unorganized areas. This can be very distracting and can diminish your work ethic.
Get a practical desk chair. Even if you have a standing desk, make sure to get a computer chair. Ergonomic chairs are great for back support and will help you sit up straight.
If you have meetings, ideas, or deadlines you need to make, get a board. Dry eraser boards and bulletin boards can help you organize your ideas and keep you on schedule. Another thing to have is a printer or fax machine. If you don’t need to scan or fax any paperwork, you should still have a good printer. These can be used by everyone in the family.
When it comes to working from home you need a dedicated space that is organized and designed for work only. Do not work in your kitchen or living room while you watch television. This is very distracting and you won’t get much work done. Even though you can’t go to your office in the city, act like you are. Get up, get dressed, prepare your lunch and get to work.
